Stocks Down, Bitcoin Up: BTC ETFs See 4th Straight Inflow Day, But Is New Money Really Coming In?

美股跌但BTC ETF连4日净流入1.32亿美元,稳定币市值却在缩水,这钱到底是新来的还是搬家的?BTC ETFs post 4 straight inflow days as stocks fall—but shrinking stablecoin supply hints it's old money reshuffling, not new cash.

On Friday, July 17, while the Nasdaq and S&P kept sliding, Bitcoin spot ETFs quietly pulled in $132 million — the fourth straight day of net inflows. That's an unusual split from the past month's pattern, where crypto and stocks mostly moved together.

We've been tracking this tug-of-war in our BTC coverage for weeks: on one side, ETF outflows and no fresh buyers showing up; on the other, a Fear & Greed Index stuck at 25 (Extreme Fear), where the market's own "don't turn more bearish during panic" logic keeps kicking in. Those two forces have kept the stance flipping between neutral and cautiously bearish or bullish almost weekly. This four-day inflow streak is the latest piece of evidence tilting toward the bulls.

But there's a catch. Over the same week, total stablecoin market cap — often seen as sideline cash waiting to buy the dip — shrank 1.09%. That suggests the real pool of new money isn't growing. What's flowing into ETFs looks more like existing capital reshuffling than genuinely fresh demand. And zooming out, BTC was still sitting on a 16-day net outflow of $1.6 billion as of a prior reading — that backdrop hasn't changed.

Ethereum ETFs saw $36.7 million in net inflows the same day, with BlackRock's ETHA alone accounting for $31.7 million — institutional interest still concentrated at the top.

US markets stay closed for the next two days, so ETF flow data won't update. This four-day streak will hold as the latest read until the next trading session reveals the tug-of-war's next move.
