比特币跌破7.9万,ETF却在连续净流入——这背离藏着什么机制?BTC Slips Below $79K While ETFs Keep Buying — What the Divergence Reveals

比特币跌破7.9万美元,但ETF连续3日净流入,衍生品新空头却在加仓——谁在赌,谁会赢?BTC falls below $79K even as ETFs keep buying and new shorts pile into derivatives — who's right?

On the surface, bitcoin dropped below $79,000, down 1.4% on the day, with total crypto market cap falling 3.56% to $2.67 trillion. Japan's wage data hit a 27-year high, reinforcing rate-hike expectations, while Fed hike odds sit near 60% — a macro story that seems to explain the drop on its own.

But the first-order mechanism isn't in the headlines — it's in derivatives. Funding rates and open interest both rose together, meaning this isn't panic selling, it's fresh short positions being actively added — leveraged directional bets, not liquidation-driven capitulation.

The more interesting piece is the divergence: BTC spot ETFs have posted 3 straight days of net inflows, with the latest single-day figure ($175 million, Sept 4) running opposite to price direction. That's not proof of causation — spot inflows and derivatives shorts could be two entirely separate flows of capital, not one coherent logic chain. Whether this is institutions buying dips or funds actively shorting, current data doesn't show a clear winner.

We upgraded our BTC stance from cautiously bullish to bullish on Sept 4, based on bitcoin breaking a six-week range with a 10.6% single-day surge. This Sept 8 pullback creates tension with that call — but the timing and drivers may differ, so one shouldn't be read as confirming or denying the other.

If new shorts keep piling in while ETF inflows fail to translate into spot-side support, this divergence will eventually resolve. Watch whether funding turns negative, and whether ETF flows hold up once U.S. markets reopen.
