2.3%ETH's 5.8% Squeeze Rally Fizzles: Price Still Down 2.3% Two Days Later

ETH's 5.8% short-squeeze pop faded — now down 2.3% two days later, no follow-through

Surface story: ETH spiked 5.8% in one hour on Sept 11, looking like fresh buying. First-order mechanism: it was a short squeeze — over $17 million in short positions got forcibly liquidated, most of it in the final 20 minutes, a classic derivatives-side cascade, not news-driven, while the broader crypto market rallied in sync.

Two days later, ETH sits at $2,475.52, down 2.3% over 24 hours and 1.0% over 7 days, now 5.8% below its 7-day high. The squeeze didn't turn into a trend — it just cleared out short positions before price drifted back down.

The deeper question, running for weeks now: was August's ETH rally driven by real institutional buying or leverage-built froth? This latest squeeze is again derivatives-driven, not new spot demand — consistent with that lingering doubt, not proof buyers are actually stepping in.

Separately, the daily brief flagged a single-day $216 million net inflow into Ethereum ETFs, the first positive day after a stretch of outflows. That's a distinct event from the squeeze, with no evidence the two are connected — funding flows look mixed, not unified.

If derivatives keep manufacturing squeeze-driven pops while spot demand stays absent, that pattern won't break on its own. The real test isn't another short liquidation — it's whether ETF inflows can string together multiple days in a row.
