HYPE Got Squeezed Five Times This Week — So Why Is It Holding Up Best?

2026-09-20
HYPE got squeezed 5 times this week but is only 3.4% off its high — outperforming SOL, TAO and ADA thanks to a real product launch, not just leverage.

HYPE trades at $91.01, down 1.6% in 24 hours but still up 17.1% over 7 days — only 3.4% below its weekly high, the smallest pullback among the altcoins we track.

The evidence: HYPE triggered at least five price alerts over the past week. One on Sept 18 flagged an 11.3% 24-hour gain classified as tracking the broader market rally, but it also noted something not purely leverage-driven — Hyperliquid launched manual lending that same day and the token hit a fresh high. Short positions worth over $12,000 got liquidated in that window while longs were barely touched. Based on this pattern, OpenClue upgraded its stance on HYPE from cautiously bullish to bullish on Sept 18.

Compare that to SOL, TAO, and ADA, which each saw squeeze-driven alerts this week too (10%-12.7% moves between Sept 18-19). But those alerts explicitly noted no token-specific news behind the moves, and flagged that similar past patterns typically faded within hours — pure leverage unwinds. That likely explains why SOL sits 5.0% below its weekly high, TAO 7.1% below, and ADA 5.4% below — all wider gaps than HYPE's.

Worth noting: several alerts also flagged thinning order-book depth for HYPE, though open interest showed no unusual buildup — a caution flag, not a bullish confirmation.

The stance holds as long as future HYPE rallies keep coinciding with real product or regulatory catalysts. If upcoming alerts show only beta_market_move or short_squeeze tags with no such catalyst, the call reverts to cautiously bullish.
