Yesterday It Was Shorts Getting Squeezed. Today It's Real Money.

BTC ETFs just pulled in $999M in a single day, the biggest since last October — and unlike Sunday's short squeeze, this is real money

Monday's headline: bitcoin spot ETFs pulled in $999 million in net inflows in a single day — the biggest since last October — marking a third straight day of net buying (following $433 million on Sept 18). Same day, the Fear & Greed Index climbed to 78, Extreme Greed, its highest reading in a week.

Worth separating this from what happened the day before. Sunday's bounce leaned heavily on short sellers getting squeezed out — forced buybacks pushing price up, not fresh capital coming in. Monday's $999 million is a different animal: actual ETF subscription money, not leverage unwinding.

On September 19 we upgraded our BTC stance from cautiously bullish to bullish, based on a specific signal: during a sharp move near $81,311, open interest on futures rose just 0.4% — meaning the rally wasn't leverage-driven, pointing instead to real spot demand. Three straight days of ETF inflows since then track with that call.

BTC now sits at $86,074, up 0.9% on the day and 11.9% over the week, still near its 7-day high. The flow picture looks sturdier than it did a few days ago. But Extreme Greed at 78 is exactly the kind of backdrop where short pullbacks tend to show up. Both things can be true at once — read the risk accordingly.
