Just after midnight on October 13, a selloff in Korean AI chip stocks rippled across the Pacific into crypto. The daily brief put the damage at roughly $800 million in forced liquidations. Between 00:25 and 00:55 UTC, three alerts fired back to back: ZEC down 10.4%, TAO down 10.2%, ADA down 10.3%. All three read the same way — no coin-specific bad news, just leveraged longs getting liquidated (ZEC and ADA) or a broad market move dragging TAO down with it. Three coins, one shared liquidation event, not three separate stories. Our own ADA stance was downgraded that day from cautiously-bullish to neutral, because open interest (the total size of unclosed leveraged bets) was shrinking — a sign of longs exiting rather than fresh buyers stepping in, consistent with the "long liquidation" tag on the alert. As of now, prices have partly recovered: ADA at $0.2339 (24h -5.7%), TAO at $274.70 (-5.2%), ZEC at $1,187.07 (-7.5%) — all well off their overnight lows. The more telling number is Bitcoin's: $83,151, up 0.5% over 24 hours. In the same storm, BTC was among the first to find its footing. This pattern — leverage flushing out fast while BTC decouples — has shown up repeatedly in TAO and HYPE over recent weeks; open interest data usually tells you afterward whether a move was real money or just leverage. Fear & Greed still sits at 57, and BTC spot ETFs saw $65 million in net outflows yesterday, so sentiment and flows aren't fully lining up yet. US markets open today, and September CPI lands in about 23 hours — the next real test of whether this decoupling holds.
